“The art of life is to live in the present moment, and to make that moment as perfect as we can by the realization that we are the instruments and expression of God Himself.” -Emmet Fox Quotes

I know- I have a lot of making up to do here! “Please forgive me… it has been 27 days since my last blog post.” For good reason, I assure you! I have been up to some AMAZING things these past few weeks- and I can’t wait to share my journey with you…

It all began with a trip to Las Vegas for a ballroom dance competition.  I’ve competed in Vegas a few times now, but this competition felt different.  As the music started, I felt extremely close to Michael. Instead of thinking about my posture, poise, or frame, I decided to focus on our energy as a dancing couple.  I trusted that all of our hard work would pay off, and all I needed to do was enjoy this moment with my fiancé.  It was quite liberating to let go of the cerebral attachments I had to our dancing.  As many dancers know, it is very easy to get stuck on technique.  Technique is extremely important, but in the moment of performance, you need to have faith in your own body and trust that it has trained well.  By doing this, I found myself completely engaged in the here and now.  I’m sure Michael felt it, also.  It was the most enjoyable competition we’ve had so far, and we also believe it to be our strongest dancing so far.

After the competition, we decided to continue this exploration of living in the moment.  We decided to start driving to the Grand Canyon; we didn’t have any reservations or specific plans. We found a cute Inn to stay our first night and were already feeling the energy pull towards the legendary canyons.  The next day, we woke up early to see the sunrise at the canyons; unfortunately, it was rainy and we couldn’t see it.  Eventually, the skies cleared and we were free to explore.  We took the bus along the canyons and ours jaws dropped when we got our first glimpse.  We stepped out of the bus and started to explore- this was unlike ANYTHING I’ve ever seen.  Here were some of the thoughts I contemplated over while sitting on a rock overlooking the canyons:

  1. I am really small.
  2. It would only take one tiny shove to push someone off the ledge.
  3. Life is simple.
  4. Looking out at the vastness of the canyons, I’m reminded that I am just a visitor on this plant.
  5. Material things are nothing in comparison to natural beauty.
  6. I want to dance! I want to dance right there at the top of the universe!
  7. I really would like to be surrounded by nature more often; my senses are alert and alive.
  8. Sometimes you just need to scream out into 6,000 feet of nothingness.
  9. Why am I so scared the edge ? I’ve never been afraid of heights, but then, I’ve never been this high up. Maybe everyone has their limits.
  10. There is definitely something spiritual happening here.
Coming back home from this trip, I feel I have changed- maybe matured is the correct word.  I’m trying to keep these thoughts close to me on a daily basis.  There is no sense in sweating the small stuff.  I love feeling alive.  I love what I do and who I do it with.  Life is short, and I am going to cherish every second of it 🙂
Rhythmically yours,
